AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK
MUNICIPAL CODE REQUIRING COMMERCIAL
AND INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENTS TO HAVE IDENT-
IFICATION SIGNS USING THE ENGISH ALPHABET
AND ARABIC NUMBERS. CASE NO: AZC-99;
APPLICANT: BALDWIN PARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Baldwin
Park does hereby find, determine and declare, as follows:
a) That the safety of life and property depends in large
part on the ability of persons to identify locations where emergencies
are on-going and to promptly describe such locations to police, fire
and other safety personnel; and
b) That persons advising such safety personnel of
emergency situations can more easily and quickly identify locations
if business names are printed in English characters and Arabic numbers
which are visible from nearby public streets*
SECTION 2. That Section 17.32.115 is hereby added to the
Baldwin Park Municpal Code to read as follows:
Section 17.32.115. Signs. English Alphabet, Arabic Numbers
Each commercial or industrial establishment in the City,
located on a lot adjacent to or abutting upon a street,
which has an exterior sign identifying such establishment,
shall place on such sign the name of the business and the
street number using characters of the English alphabet and/or
Arabic Numbers. All of the letters and/or numbers on
such signs and street numbers shall be of such a size as
to be easily readable from a distance of fifty 50) feet.
Nothing contained herein shall prohibit the use of foreign
language characters, numbers, logos or other symbols on a
sign required pursuant to this section, in addition to the
English alphabet and/or Arabic numbers required pursuant
hereto."
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adop-
tion of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published in the
manner prescribed by law, 7

introduced and placed upon its first reading at a regular meeting of
the City Council on the 21st day of August 1985. That, there-
after, said Ordinance was duly approved and adopted at a regular
meeting of the City Council on the4th day of Septewb^f>85, by
the following vote:
