RESOLUTION NO, 66-312
A RESOLUTION OF-THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BALDWIN PARK, CALIFORNIA, URGING THAT THE
CLASSIFICATION OF POLICE OFFICER BE PLACED
ON THE CRITICAL OCCUPATION LIST' OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF LABOR.
WHEREAS, the State of California is-experiencing-an
unprecedented rapid growth in its population and an accompanying
crime rate which is increasing more rapidly than the population
rate; and
WHEREAS, all law en£orcement.agencies in the State of
California are engaged.in continuous, diligent recruitment programs
and even so are.unable to employ sufficient numbers of qualified law
enforcement officers to meet the needs of the communities in the
area of police protection;.and
WHEREAS, as this nation depends upon the military service
for its external security, so does it depend upon local law enforce-
ment agencies for its internal security; and
WHEREAS, the depletion of local law enforcement agencies'
of.qualified, trained young men by induction into the.military ser-
vice seriously aggravates and compounds the problem of an insufficient
number of law enforcement officers to protect the citizens of the
communities;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Baldwin Park, California, urgently requests the Honorable W,
Willard Wirtz, Secretary of Labor, cause to be placed on the Critical
Occupations List of the Department of Labor, the classification of
Police Officer, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
sent to the President of-the United States, the Director of the
Federal Selective Service System, the United States Secretary of
Defense, the United States Secretary of Labor, members of the Calif-
ornia delegation in the United States Congress, the Governor of the
State of California, the Senator and Assemblymen representing Bald-
win Park in the California State Legislature.
