A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BALDWIN PARK OPPOSING CONSTRUCTION
OF A WASTE-TO-ENERGY PLANT IN IRWINDALE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, Pacific Waste Management Corporation has filed an
application with the California Energy Commission for authorization to
construct a large Waste-to-Energy facility in Irwindale; and
WHEREAS, the California Energy Commission is currently evaluating
said application and conducting hearings regarding the application and
proposed facility; and
WHEREAS, the residents of Baldwin Park would be adversely impacted
by any degradation in air quality or ground water quality or increase in
possible hazardous or toxic emissions caused as a result of the construction
and operation of such a facility; and
WHEREAS, such a facility is proposed in Irwindale, an immediately
adjacent city to Baldwin Park, thereby posing particular concern.
NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Baldwin Park that the City is opposed to the proposed construction and
operation of a Waste-to-Energy facility in the City of Irwindale.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk shall send copies of
this Resolution to the City of Irwindale, Pacific Waste Management Corporation
and the California Energy Commission.
