A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BALDWIN PARK OPPOSING THE CONSTRUCTION
OF A HAZARDOUS WASTE INCINERATOR IN IRWINDALE
AND SUPPORTING USE OF THE SITE FOR RECREATION
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Omega Chemical Corporation has indicated an
interest in acquiring the use of a site in the City of Irwindale
for the purpose of constructing a hazardous waste incineration
facility; and
WHEREAS/ this City Council has grave concerns over the
potential harmful health effects that such a facility could have
on all residents of the City of Baldwin Park as well as the
entire San Gabriel Valley; and
WHEREAS/ the property upon which such facility would be
located is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers and leased by the
County of Los Angeles for recreation purposes; and
WHEREAS/ the City of Duarte is leading an effort to
insure that said property remain in use for recreational
purposes, either by the County or other public agencies.
NOW/ THEREFORE/ IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City
Council of the City of Baldwin Park/ California/ as follows:
SECTION 1. That the City is strongly opposed
to the use of said Corps of Engineers owned site for purposes of
constructing a hazardous waste incinerator/ and
SECTION 2. That the City Council supports the
use of said site exclusively for recreational purposes by one or
more public agencies,
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify
to the passage and adoption of the Resolution.
