A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BALDWIN PARK APPROVING SEPTEMBER 29, 1887
AS THE FOUNDER'S DAY DATE FOR THE CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the Historical Society, School District/
City and interested citizens of the community have researched
documents relating to the founding of the City of Baldwin Park;
and
WHEREAS, the township was surveyed in 1853 but no
significant settlements developed until 1878 in the area called
Pleasant View; and
WHEREAS, a townsite named Vineland was recorded in the
County of Los Angeles by L.H. Washburn on September 29, 1887;
and
WHEREAS, the townsite developed as a community that
established schools, water districts, transportation, business
and community leadership; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park
has declared its intention to adopt one of the dates suggested.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN
PARK, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That September 29, 1887 be declared as the
official Founder's Day for the City of Baldwin Park.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the
book of original Resolutions.

Park/ do hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City
of Baldwin Park at its regular meeting held on the 4th day of
February, 1987, by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEN GIBSON, IZELL, KING AND MAYOR WHITE_______
NOES: COUNCILMEN NONE______________________________________
