»RESOLUTION NO. 88-22
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DESIGNATING
MARCH, 1988, AS AMNESTY MONTH
WHEREAS, the United States Congress enacted the Immigration
Reform and Control Act on November 6, 1986 in an act of generosity,
which allows illegal aliens a chance to legalize their status; and
WHEREAS, the amnesty program permits individuals who entered
the United States prior to January 1, 1982, and who have
continuously resided in an illegal status since that date, a chance
to apply; and
WHEREAS, although there are currently an innumerable number of
illegal individuals living in the United States, many have not yet
applied for the benefits of legalization; and
WHEREAS, due to the confidentiality provisions of this unique
legislation, no information provided on the amnesty application will
be used to deport an applicant or nonqualifying family members; and
WHEREAS, because this program will not be extended and no
applications will be accepted after May 4, 1988;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
SECTION 1. All qualified illegal aliens are strongly urged
apply for this once in a lifetime opportunity to legalize their
status and continue to live and to work in the United States without
fear.
SECTION 2. All qualifed illegal aliens are encouraged to enjoy
the freedom that this law provides by coming out of the shadows' by
applying for amnesty during Amnesty Month" in March, 1988.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
and passage of this resolution and enter it in the book of original
resolutions.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED March 16, 1988.
