HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993 040 CC RESO1993 040 CC RESO(Ììµ² RESOLUTION NO. 93 40 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK IN SUPPORT OF THE SELECTION OF THE I 10 LIGHT RAIL CANDIDATE CORRIDOR FOR FUNDING BY THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY WITHIN THE NEXT DECADE WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park has demonstrated its commitment to the improvement of transportation services for its residents and businesses through many successful transportation projects; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park has further demonstrated its understanding of the need for regional and subregional transportation systems to serve its residents and businesses, including support for the Blue Line light rail project from Los Angeles to Pasadena and east into Irwindale; and WHEREAS, the proposed I 10 freeway candidate corridor included in the Los Angeles Country 30 year Integrated Transportation Plan would contribute to an improved transportation system for Baldwin Park and all of the San Gabriel Valley; and WHEREAS, the Route 10/60 Corridor Preliminary Planning Study shows that its potential ridership and costs would be competitive with other proposed light rail candidate corridors; and WHEREAS, the communities along the I 10 freeway corridor have demonstrated their support and commitment to the project through their assistance in completing the Preliminary Planning Study; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park as follows: SECTION 1. That the City Council supports continued study, funding and an early construction date for the I 10 freeway corridor light rail project. SECTION 2. That the City Council urges the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to give this corridor a high priority in its consideration for funding in the next decade. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk certify to the adoption of this resolution and transmit copies to the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority as well as to the city Managers of each of the Cities along the I 10 candidate corridor.
