HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994 020 CC RESO1994 020 CC RESO(Ìì´¶ RESOLUTION NO.94- 20 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF A PORTION OF VIRGINIA AVENUE TO HAMBURGER LANE WHEREAS, Resolution No. 79-37, as adopted by the City of Baldwin Park, establishes a street naming policy; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 92-108, as adopted by the City of Baldwin Park, establishes a process for street name changes; and WHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of Resolution No. 92-108, the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park has initiated a change to the street name of that portion of Virginia Avenue from its termination point at Dalewood Street to a point located at 1306 North Virginia Avenue, from the name Virginia Avenue to the name Hamburger Lane; and WHEREAS, said request has been made by the City in concurrence with the only property owner on that portion of the street which will be subject to the name change, and the name change has been reviewed and approved by the Chief of Police, Fire Chief, and Director of Public Works; and WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park was the birthplace of the fast food family restaurant known as In-N-Out Burger; and WHEREAS, the In-N-Out Burger has become a tradition and a unique part of the Southern California lifestyle; and WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park wishes to honor the company which makes its home in the City; and WHEREAS, In-N-Out Burger still maintains its offices on that portion of Virginia Avenue which will be subject to the name change; and WHEREAS, the public interest and convenience requires the change of name as requested. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The foregoing recitals are true and correct and the City Council so finds and determines. SECTION 2. It is the intention of the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park to approve the request to change the street name of that portion of Virginia Avenue from its termination point at Dalewood Street eastward to a point located at 1306 North Virginia Avenue, at which point the street turns north, from its present name, Virginia Avenue to a new name Hamburger Lane. In this regard, a public hearing is hereby set for April 6, 1994, at 7:00 o'clock p.m. or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, in the Council Chambers at 14403 East Pacific Avenue, Baldwin Park, California, at which time the City Council shall determine whether to approve the street name, change or abandon the proceedings. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to post a notice of the City Council's intention to change the street name of a portion of Virginia Avenue to Hamburger Lane, showing the hearing time and date, at City Hall and at three locations along the street where the proposed name change is to take effect. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and shall forward a certified copy thereof to the Director of Public Works of the City of Baldwin Park.
