A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK,
CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING CONTINUED PARTICIPATION IN THE CALIFORNIA
HEALTHY CITIES PROJECT
WHEREAS, by the year 2,000, the majority of the world's population will live in cities; and
WHEREAS, the health status of city dwellers is largely influenced by the physical, social, and
economic conditions in the urban environment; and
WHEREAS, it is logical for the city to be a focal point for health improvement efforts; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Health Services, through the Western Consortium for
Public Health, is the first state health agency in the nation to spearhead an effort to improve the health
status of all Californians through an innovative public health project entitled the California Healthy Cities
Project: and
WHEREAS, the California Healthy Cities Project advocates a public policy approach to a
broadened definition of community health which includes the physical environment, economic conditions,
and social climate and encourages the public, private, and voluntary sectors to work with citizens to
address locally identified health and health-related concerns; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park has endorsed the philosophy and principles of the healthy
cities model and made a commitment to improve health status and to enhanced community livability
through the development and implementation of a local health improvement project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA,
that the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park is committed to increasing the livability of their community
and positively influencing the health status of local residents.
