HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 014 CC RESO1997 014 CC RESO(Ìì·5 RESOLUTION NO.97 14 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DESIGNATING APRIL AS HOME COMPOSTING MONTH HONORING EARTH DAY 1997 WHEREAS, April 22, 1997, is universally celebrated as Earth Day; and WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park encourages and endorses voluntary and least-cost methods to reduce municipal solid waste; and WHEREAS, yard and organic wastes represent a significant fraction of the City's total Waste stream; and WHEREAS, the City is required to implement waste prevention programs as stipulated by the California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989; and WHEREAS, the City's Source Reduction and Recycling Element SRRE) identifies home composting as one of its targeted program activities; and WHEREAS, home composting can be an effective means to reduce our waste, achieving up to 18% diversion in some cities NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Baldwin Park designates the month of April 1997 as Home Corn posting Month for the purpose of educating residents as to the benefits of the waste prevention activity and to help reduce waste In accordance with the City's SRRE. The City Council urges all residents to compost their organic wastes, and leaves and grass clippings In their own backyards.
