A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BALDWIN PARK, DECLARING ITS SUPPORT OF THE LOS
ANGELES COUNTY HOMECARE WORKERS HEALTHCARE
CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, there are currently over 30,000 Homecare Workers who work 112 hours
per month that are eligible for healthcare coverage; and
WHEREAS, in these times of State and County budget crisis, we all look for good
public policy to support; and
WHEREAS, if the County lowers the eligibility threshold, they will be bringing more
money into the County budget; and
WHEREAS, giving healthcare to Homecare Workers is a win for a cash strapped Los
Angeles County.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park hereby supports the
request of SEIU Local 434B and urges the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to
lower the eligibility threshold from 112 hours to 80 hours thereby providing healthcare to
20,000 more workers.
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and
forward a copy to Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Gloria Molina, 1st District;
Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, 2nd District; Zev Yaroslavsky, 3rd District; Don Knabe, 4th District;
Michael D. Antonovich, 5th District; David E. Janssen, Los Angeles County Chief Executive
Officer, and SEIU Local 434B.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 16th day of July, 2003.
