HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 074 CC RESO2003 074 CC RESO(Ìì½JRESOLUTION NO. 2003-074 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DECLARING ITS SUPPORT OF THE METRORAIL GOLDLINE PHASE TWO CITIES. WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley will experience a population increase by 25% to 2,219,229 people by the year 2025; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the number of jobs in the San Gabriel Valley will increase approximately 30% by the year 2025; and WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valle/s existing freeway system and public transportation infrastructure cannot accommodate or maintain the level of service currently existing; and WHEREAS, limited improvements to the existing freeway system and public transportation infrastructure will be proposed or completed within the San Gabriel Valley to accommodate the significant population and employment increase; and WHEREAS, the Goldline Phase I opened on July 26, 2003 and runs between Union Station in downtown Los Angeles through Pasadena to Sierra Madre Villa; and WHEREAS, the projected Goldline Phase I daily ridership is projected to be between 26,000 and 32,000; and WHEREAS, the proposed Joint Powers Authority created by the Goldline Phase II cities is in the best position to facilitate the construction of the Goldline Phase II rail extension in a timely and cost-effective manner. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City of Baldwin Park hereby declares its support of the Goldline Phase II cities forming a Joint Powers Authority to facilitate the construction of the Goldline Phase II extension in a timely and cost-effective manner; and Section 2. The City of Baldwin Park encourages funding of the Goldline Phase II extension from Local, State and Federal sources; and Section 3. The City of Baldwin Park hereby urges all cities adjacent to the Goldline Phase II cities to support the Goldline Phase II cities endeavors; and Section 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and forward a copy to the following entities: San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, Metropolitan Transportation Authority Governing Board, Metro Blue Line Construction Authority, Cities of Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale, Azusa, Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont, Montclair; and BIB] 37944-U01 2003-U02 074-U02 CC-U02 RESO-U02 LI3-U03 FO8417-U03 FO9347-U03 DO31488-U03 C6-U03 RESO-U03 11/19/2003-U04 ROBIN-U04 2003 074 CC RESO(Ìì½JResolution 2003-074 Page 2 Section 5.
