A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BALDWIN PARK EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE
COUNTY TO PROVIDE SAFETY BOOTS TO THE OFFICERS OF
THE DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL
WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park is home to one of the County's six animal
shelters, serving millions of County residents; and
WHEREAS, for several years the Los Angeles County Department of Animal
Care and control has required Animal Control Officers to wear boots; and
WHEREAS, safety boots are not provided to the Animal Control Officers by the
Department of Animal Care and Control; and
WHEREAS, Animal Control Officers are required to capture large animals such
as horses that can easily weigh up to 1800 lbs as well as assisting firefighters in
capturing animals when wildfires break out in our local mountains; and
WHEREAS, at times, Animal Control Officers have to investigate animal
hoarding cases and enter homes that may contain sick and dead animals, among
several other hazardous materials; and
WHEREAS, having appropriate footwear is essential to the safety and health of
the Animal Control Officers; and
WHEREAS, providing safety boots to Animal Control Officers may be an
effective vehicle to reduce injuries to officers and to enable them to continue to provide
quality public services.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED this City Council of the City of Baldwin Park:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park supports the
efforts of the Los Angeles County's Department of Animal Care and control Officers to
obtain safety boots and encourages the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to
approve the providing of safety boots to Animal Control Officers.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolution and shall forward a copy of this Resolution to the Los Angeles County
Board of Supervisors.
