request for Zone change A-1 to M-2. Council to further
consider this zone
The City Clerk certified that due notice of the change and City
hearing had been furnished all interested parties, both Engineer to submit
by letter and by newspaper publication, as required an opinion to the
by law. Council.
City Clerk announced that he had a letter from the
Baldwin Park School District requesting that a rep-
resentative of the School District be allowed to
appear at the hearing.
The City Clerk stated'he had received three letters in
protest as follow s: Mr. and Mrs. Henrie Geraths,
4724 N. Merced, Mr. James B. Sutton, 4125 N. LaRica St
and Nina E. and J.H. Shipp, 4738 N. Merced Avenue, also
a letter from Mr. LeRoy E. Lindley, 13646 E. Olive,
Baldwin Park, stating he had been spokesman for the
group listed in the petition attached to his letter,
consisting of 107 names, and stated that he would like
to appear before the meeting as representative of this
group. There were only about 58 signatures within a
block of the subject property located on Olive Street.
All parties wishing to appear either for or against the
zone change were sworn in.
Opposition:
Mr. Jack Re Sadler, Asst. Superintendent of Schools in
Baldwin Park appeared as official representative of the
Board of Trustees of the Baldwin Park School District
and spoke in opposition to the proposed zone change. Mr.
Sadler read a letter dated August 20, 1956, from the
School District, which has been placed in the file as
Exhibit 4", and stated several reasons why the site
should be used for a school.
Mr. Lindley spoke in opposition and stated that he
believed the petition submitted is sufficient reason
for the City Council to deny this zone change, and he
heartily approved Mr. Sadler's views.
In Favor:
Mr. Ray Schweitzer, brother of Clare Schweitzer, 2655
N. Beverly Glen Blvd., Los Angeles, representing Mr.
Clare Schweitzer spoke in favor of the zone chango and
presented their reasons why the property was mare desir-
able for manufacturing uses than for a school. He stated
they were not opposed to presenting a precise plan for the
rezoned property and that they were not opposed to a
buffer zone and a parking area.
In rebuttal:
Mr. Sadler clarified some questions asked by the
Council.
Mr, Schweitzer spoke for proponents.
Moved by Councilman Littlejohn, seconded by Councilman
Cole that the City Council take this case under con-
sideration and that the City Engineer give the Council
a statement as to his findings and also that Mr. Schweitzer
present to the Louneil a precise plan of what his develop-
ments will be in regard to a buffer zone; put in curbs and
