Council. City Clerk announced that he had a letter from the Baldwin Park School District requesting that a rep- resentative of the School District be allowed to appear at the hearing. The City Clerk stated'he had received three letters in protest as follow s: Mr. and Mrs. Henrie Geraths, 4724 N. Merced, Mr. James B. Sutton, 4125 N. LaRica St and Nina E. and J.H. Shipp, 4738 N. Merced Avenue, also a letter from Mr. LeRoy E. Lindley, 13646 E. Olive, Baldwin Park, stating he had been spokesman for the group listed in the petition attached to his letter, consisting of 107 names, and stated that he would like to appear before the meeting as representative of this group. There were only about 58 signatures within a block of the subject property located on Olive Street. All parties wishing to appear either for or against the zone change were sworn in. Opposition: Mr. Jack Re Sadler, Asst. Superintendent of Schools in Baldwin Park appeared as official representative of the Board of Trustees of the Baldwin Park School District and spoke in opposition to the proposed zone change. Mr. Sadler read a letter dated August 20, 1956, from the School District, which has been placed in the file as Exhibit 4", and stated several reasons why the site should be used for a school. Mr. Lindley spoke in opposition and stated that he believed the petition submitted is sufficient reason for the City Council to deny this zone change, and he heartily approved Mr. Sadler's views. In Favor: Mr. Ray Schweitzer, brother of Clare Schweitzer, 2655 N. Beverly Glen Blvd., Los Angeles, representing Mr. Clare Schweitzer spoke in favor of the zone chango and presented their reasons why the property was mare desir- able for manufacturing uses than for a school. He stated they were not opposed to presenting a precise plan for the rezoned property and that they were not opposed to a buffer zone and a parking area. In rebuttal: Mr. Sadler clarified some questions asked by the Council. Mr, Schweitzer spoke for proponents.
