The Mayor stated that this special meeting was called for the purpose of nominating a City Clerk to fill the unexpired term of Elmer Cook, who had resigned. ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmen Bishop, Holmes, Littlejohn, Roll Call Stephens, Cole; City Attorney, and Chief Administrative Officer; Deputy City Clerk. Absent: City Clerk All Councilmen acknowledged receipt of notice of the meeting except Councilman Holmes, who waived notice. The resignation of the former City Clerk, Mr. Elmer Cook, was previously received by the City Council, and was accepted by the City Council, said resignation being effective April 30, 1958, and the position of the city Clark of the city of Baldwin Park is therefore vacant. The City Council, by law, is entitlo ed to fill the vacancy. Moved by Councilman Stephens, seconded by Couancilusan Littlejohn, and unanimously carried, that the City Council make the above findings. Moved by Councilman Holmes, seconded by Councilmen Bishop, and Nomination of unanimously carried, that Mrs. Thelma Balkans be nominated to fill Mrs. Thelma Balkus the vacancy of City Clerk for the unexpired term of Elmer Cook, to fill unexpired term of City Moved by Councilman Littlejohn, and seconded by Councilman Holmes, Clerk. that the nasriaations be closed. This motion carried by the following vote s AMLS: Councilmen Bishop, Holmes, Littlejohn, Stephens and Cole. NOES: some ABBEIiT: None The appointee being over 21 years of age, and a resident and Mrs. Thalma voter in the City of Baldwin Park for at least a year prior to Balkus appointed th#s date, it was moved by Councilman Holmes, seconded by to fill unexpired Councilman Stephens, that Yrs. Thelma Balkans be appointed term of City Clerk to fill the urwqpired term of the City Clark of the City of Baldwin Park, effective May 1, 1958. This motion carried by the following vote: APES: Councilmen Bishop, Holmes, Littlejohn, Stephens and Cole. lORS: None ABSENT: None The Mayor then gave the oath of office to the new City Clerk. Moved by Councilman Littlejohn, and seconded by Comncilnan Holmes, that Thelma Balkas is found by the City Council to be duly qualified to assume the duties of City Clerk. This motion carried by the following vote: AIRS: Councilmen Bishop, Holmes, Littlejohn, Stephens and Cole.
