Present: COUNCILMEN BLEWETT, GREGORY, HAMILTON, MC CARON AND MAYOR KING Roll Call: CITY MANAGER MOCALIS, CITY TREASURER CALE AND CITY CLERK BALKUS Also Present: Absent: CITY ATTORNEY FLANDRICK. DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS PERRY. PLANNING DIRECTOR GORDON, FINANCE DIRECTOR DUNCAN AND CHIEF OF POLICE ADAMS 00- City Clerk Balkus read by title: MAKCH 1^, 19//I 7:30 P.M. FLAG SALUTE ROLL CALL RESOLUTION NO. 74-35 COMMENDING THE HONOR- ABLE HARVEY JOHNSON, ASSEMBLYMAN 58TH DISTRICT. FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK. RESOLUTION NO. 74-35 ADOPTED AND FURTHER READING WAIVED. M/S/C: GREGORY/BLEWETT. 00- It was the time and place fixed for receiving the City Clerk's Certificate as to the results of the General Municipal Election held Tuesday, March 5, 1974. She stated that 3,593 ballots had been cast; including 39 absentee ballots; that the Certificate of Canvass was attached to Resolution No. 74-34 which indicated the votes cast for all candidates; that the following were elected as Members of City Council: Virgil V. Hamilton and Emmit R. Waldo; that campaign statements for the persons so named were filed with the City Clerk's office on March 12. 1974. City Clerk Balkus read by title: RESOLUTION NO. 74-34 RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY OF BALDWIN PARK ON THE 5TH DAY OF MARCH, 1974, DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW. Hamilton and Councilman Emmit R. Waldo, and presented them with their certificates. 00- Mayor King extended the privilege of the floor to the outgoing and incoming officials. Councilman Blewett thanked his associates and the staff for the four fine years with the City. He thanked the people of the City with which he had worked. He said he looked at defeat as a stage between victories. He said he was leaving this office with a sad heart, but that he has many fond memories. 00- Councilman Hamilton thanked all of his supporters who helped him in the campaign. He said It was a very close vote and he had been the victor. He commented that Mr. Btewett had served especially well and wished him good luck and best wishes in the future. He said a new year is starting and felt that if they all work together and forget any past differences, he and his colleagues can accomplish more for the City of Baldwin Park. 00- Councilman Waldo said he wanted to thank all of the wonderful people who had helped him and it was a lot of hard work. For the past few years along with other people, he had worked on other projects which were successful. Now it was time to join with his colleagues and try to help the City move along further on the road. He felt everyone had done their best and it was time to join hands and try to move the City forward. 00- Mayor King said as out-going Mayor, that he wished to extend his appreciation to everyone for giving him the opportunity to be Mayor" of the great City of Baldwin Park. It has been an experience that very few people ever achieve. Many people do not realize what a wonderful feeling it is to serve 50,000 good people. He said they had had their differences, but when the election is over, they settle down and work together for the City. He said he had been blessed with one of the finest Council any man could hope to work with. He felt that they have a Council who win always have compassion and understanding for the people. He said the individual who is Mayor should be recognized as such and he has been. She announced that at this time all of the Council Members were on an equal basis, to nominate and elect, and that voting could be done by ro11 call or secret ballot, whichever the Council desired and that separate nominations and elections should be held for each office. Council indicated they wished voting to be done by voice vote. City Clerk Balkus stated that nominations for Mayor were now open. Councilman King nominated Councilman Hamilton for the office of Mayor, Councilman Waldo seconded. MOVED NOMINATIONS CLOSED. M/S/C: GREGORY/MC CARON. There were no objections. City Clerk Balkus stated that Councilman Hamilton is Mayor. 00- City Clerk Balkus stated that nominations for Mayor pro tern were now open. Mayor Hamilton nominated Councilman Gregory for office of Mayor pro tern and Councilman King seconded MOVED NOMINATIONS CLOSED. M/S/C: WALDO/KING. There were no objections. City Clerk Balkus stated that Councilman Gregory is Mayor pro tern. 00- Mayor pro tern Gregory said she was looking forward to working with the Council and staff as Mayor pro tern. She said her assistance was there when it was needed. 00- Mayor Hamilton thanked his colleagues for their confidence in him and stated that he would do the best job he could. He invited all citizens of Baldwin Park to participate in the Council Meet- ings as he felt the input of the people was very important; that they don't always have a11 of the answers and need the help of the people. He said if they can a11 work together in the future as they have in the past, they will be able to accomplish many things for the City.
