COUNCIL OF CITY HALL, WEDNESDAY, The City Council of the City of Baldwin Park met in a special session in the in the Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m. The Invocation was given by Councilman Izell. The Flag Salute was led by James Gibson. COUNCILMAN IZELL AND MAYOR PRO TEM GIBSON ROLL CALL PRESENT: City Manager Webb, and City Clerk Gair ALSO PRESENT: INVOCATION FLAG SALUTE ROLL CALL 00- The absence of City treasurer Montenegro was excused. 00- REPORTS OF OFFICERS, COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES City Clerk Gair atated that a Special Municipal Election was held on July 14, 1987 to fill two vacancies created by the recall election of March 31, 1987 and to fill one vacancy due to the death of Councilman Robert H. McNeill. The canvass of the July 14th election has been com- pleted and the City Clerk verified that all the ballots have been correctly counted and accounted for. The canvass of the election verifies that a major- ity of the voters vote did vote for Leo W. King for Mayor until April, 1988; and for Jack B. White for Council until April, 1988; and for Julia S. McNeill for Council until April, 1990. Each of the offices is for an unexpired term. A state- ment of the election results is attached to the resolution reciting the facts and declaring the results of the Special Municiapl Election. It was moved and seconded to approve Resolution No, 87-66, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON JULY 14, 1987, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PRO- VIDED BY LAW." IZELL/GIBSON. There were no objec- tions. 00- City Clerk Gair administered the Oath of Office to Leo W. King, Mayor; Julia S. McNeill/ Council- woman; and Jack B. White, Councilman. Following the Oath of Office each of the newly elected officials was issued a Certificate of Election by the City Clerk and were seated with the other Councilmembers. o6+ Mayor King stated that the next item on the agenda is Oral Communications and he would first ask the newly seated members to speak. She stated that tonight is a new beginning, not to change, but to go on with what has been started. She said that she intends to try hard to do and help as much as she can, because a city divided cannot stand. She espressed her hope that the Council, Staff and Citizens can reach out to one another to have a better and sweeter Baldwin Park, COUNCIL COMMENTS J. MCNEILL Councilman White stated that he felt as if he had WHITE been on a nice vacation. He complimented the Staff for not faltering in their work for the last few months and looked forward to continuing as before. Mayor King expressed the emotions that he was feeling KING in being seated as mayor and stated his intentions to listen to the people and to continue to endeavor to see that the City progresses. He referred to the chamber publication that shows the lines of people waiting to apply for a job in the Lorin Love joy, 12749 Torch, inquired regarding the LORIN amount of the settlement paid to Dennis Irving and LOVEJOY if Mr. Irving had been paid. City Attorney Flandrick responded that the settle- CITY ment had been deposited with the court and Mr. ATTORNEY Irving has to make application for it. He also stated that the records relating to the exact amount of Mr. Irving's settlement are open to the public. Mayor pro tern Gibson declared Oral Commuications CLOSED closed. 00- It was moved and seconded to adjourn the regular MEETING meeting of the City Council at 7:17 p.m. M/S/C: ADJOURNED IZELL/GIBSON.
