The City Council of the City of Baldwin Park met in adjourned regular session in the Room 7 at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS GALLEGOS, ROLL CALL MARTINEZ, AND MAYOR VARGAS ALSO PRESENT: Dir. of Administrative Yeats, Police Chief Lanza, Dir. of Public Works Mousavi, Dir. of Community Dev. Carbajal, Dir. of Human Services Nunez, and City Clerk Gair The absences of Councilwoman McNeill and Councilman ABSENCES Izell were excused. EXCUSED 00- Flag Salute was led by Student Body President Noquez. FLAG SALUTE 00- Mayor Vargas opened the adjourned regular meeting by WELCOME welcoming all those present and introducing Mayor pro AND INTRO- tern Gallegos and Councilman Martinez. He stated that DUCTIONS this meeting would provide an opportunity to hear about City government and to question City officials and to state ideas to the City officials. Mayor pro tern Gallegos and Councilman Martinez thanked those present for taking the time to attend and expressed their hope that the citizens would leave with a better understanding of government and what is done in the City. They also asked that input be given tonight so that better decisions can be made for the people. 00- REPORTS OF OFFICERS, COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES Mayor Vargas introduced the department heads of the City DEPARTMENT and a brief description of the departments was presented HEAD by Director of Administrative services Yeats; City Clerk REPORTS Gair; Director of Community Developement Carbajal; Director of Human Services Nunez; Chief of Police Lanza; and Director of Public Works Mousavi. 00- PUBLIC INPUT Mayor Vargas declared the meeting open to public input PUBLIC and invited those wishing to speak on any subject to do INPUT so at this time. Sally Seay, 5007 Heintz, asked concerning the SEAY notification she received over a year ago regarding Heintz Street being repaired. The street is still not repaired. Armando Gallegos, 4855 Sandstone, inquired about the GALLEGOS terrible condition of Olive Street. Sherrel Rodriguez, 1933 Calmview, expressed concern RODRIGUEZ about a card club being built in Irwindale. Linda Enrique, 4858 Borel, stated her concern about the ENRIQUEZ lack of sidewalks on part of Borel Street. Doris Hernandez, 4846 Borel, spoke regarding fire HERNANDEZ hazards and problems with access to houses. Maria Guzman, 4863 Lante, spoke regarding problems with GUZMAN her driveway and cars that can't be controlled. Joann Verdugo, requested that a park in the area be VERDUGO dedicated in the name of Paul Chavez. Tony Cervantes, 15005 Olive, inquired about installation CERVANTES of sidewalks on his property and a neighbors, because he believes it has been dedicated. He also requested a flashing light to slow down drivers. Lillian Mower, 4246 Baldwin Park, asked about the high MOWER insurance rates in the City even though drunk driving grants have been received for control Ms. Iskas, 4841 Lante, asked about programs to help gang ISKAS members get into small projects. Mr. Segala, 4906 Lante, asked concerning paying for SEGALA sewers when there is six houses with a middle driveway. Mr. Rodriquez, 4933 Calmview, asked about the efforts of RODRIGUEZ the City to improve the City's image. Ann Oliver, 14900 Nubia, wanted to know if the City OLIVER removes weeds and grass and places liens on houses. Ms. Santiana, 15029 Olive, stated that she felt uniforms SANTIANA are a good idea for the school children. Resident, 4944 Bleecker, complained about the flooding RESIDENT on Olive Street and the children walking in water. Ms. Martinez, 4847 Bleecker, inquired about the loans MARTINEZ for first time business owners. Juan Diaz, Principal of Pleasant View, informed the DIAZ parents that the school is working on having uniforms. In response to a survey at the school the parents were overwhelmingly in favor of uniforms. Ms. Limon, 5021 Heintz, stated concern about the dim LIMON lights in her neighborhood and how that encourages vandalism. Ms. Rodriquez, 14703 Nubia, shared the difficulty she RODRIGUES has when she calls the police because she speaks only Spanish and the police hang up on her. Mayor Vargas closed the public input session.
