COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK, ST.
JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, 3843 BALDWIN
PARK BLVD., WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12, 1994,
AT 7:30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Baldwin
Park met in an adjourned regular session
in the Recreation Hall at 7:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL: PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS GALLEGOS, MARTINEZ, ROLL CALL
MUSE AND MAYOR VARGAS
ALSO PRESENT: Dir. of Admin. Services Yeats,
Chief of Police Lanza,
Dir. of Public Works Mousavi,
Dir. of Community Dev. Carbajal,
Dir. of Human Services Nunez, and
City Clerk Gair

Flag Salute led by St John's Student Council. PROGRAM
Invocation by Fr. Jim Forsen, Pastor, St. John the
Baptist Church
Parents Club Business, directed by Rene Depakakibo,
President, St. John's Parents Club.
Beate Nguyen, Vice-President, St. John's Parents Club,
introduced Mayor Vargas and turned the program over to
the Mayor.
Mayor Vargas and Councilmembers thanked the Parents Club
for the invitation to hold a Town Meeting at St.
John's. They commented on some of the programs and
goals of the City, and also on some of the things they
hope will come to be in the City,s future.
Mayor Vargas introduced the Department Heads from City
staff. Each of the Department Heads gave a brief
overview of the responsibilities and work of their
department.

President Depakakibo read questions to the Council and
Staff that were submitted by the audience. Questions
asked were:
1. What is the City's Financial picture? 2. Why are
fees charged for use of the Community Center? 3. Can
St. John use the Park? 4. Why are there so many
homeless in the City? 5. Is development going to
continue? 6. What is being done to bring in major
businesses? 7. Who do you ask for when your street is
neglected? 8. Is Baldwin Park the only city with a
part-time Mayor and City Council? 9. Can traffic lights
be synchronized on Ramona Blvd.? 10. What is the Mayor
and City Council doing about the damage to cars at the
Community Center? 11. Has crime dropped or is it even
decreasing? 12. Why are the hours limited at the
library?
The adjourned regular meeting of the City Council was MEETING
adjourned at 9:00 p.m. There were no objections. ADJOURNED
