The City Council of the City of Baldwin Park met in regular session in the Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS GALLEGOS, MARTINEZ MUSE AND MAYOR VARGAS ALSO PRESENT: City Attorney Bower, Chief of Police Lanza, Dir. of Administrative Services Yeats, Dir. of Community Development Carbajal, Dir. of Human Services Nunez, Dir. of Public Works Mousavi, and City Clerk Gair 00- The absence of Councilwoman McNeill was excused. 4)0- ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Mayor Vargas declared Oral Communications open and invited those wishing to speak on any subject to come forward. There were none. Mayor Vargas declared Oral Communications closed. 4)0- REPORTS OF OFFICERS. COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES City Clerk Gair reported on the canvass of the April 12, 1994 General Municipal Election and verified that all ballots had been correctly counted and accounted for. She stated that a majority of the voters voting voted for Fidel A. Vargas for Mayor; and for Teri Muse and Bette Lowes for Members of the City Council. It was moved and seconded to adopt Resolution No.94-39, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON APRIL 12,1994, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW." MIS/C: MARTINEZ/GALLEGOS. There were no objections. 4)0- City Clerk Gair administered the Oath of Office to Fidel A. Vargas for Mayor and to Ten Muse and Bette Lowes for Members of the City Council. 4)0- Council congratulated Mayor Vargas and the newly elected Councilmembers Muse and Lowes on their successes, and that they look forward to working with the new Council. Councilmember Muse stated that it was an honor to have been appointed to the vacant council seat, but that did not equal the feeling of being elected. Councilmember Lowes stated that she was extremely happy to be elected, she thanked the people for their endorsement and prayers, and that she will make every effort to work for the good of Baldwin Park. Mayor Vargas thanked the people of Baldwin Park for electing him as Mayor. He stated that it was very hard to run every two years but that it was good to keep him focused. He wants to implement new programs that will build confidence and strengthen the City and he looks forward to working with the new Council.. He congratulated Councilmembers Muse and Lowes and thanked them for running a clean campaign.
