HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996 04 17 CC MIN SS1996 04 17 CC MIN SS@˜}1MIN SS APR 17 1996à›[H6Q8 BALDWIN PARK CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION, CITY HALL, 14403 EAST PACIFIC AVENUE, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 1996 The City Council of the City of Baldwin Park met in a Study Session in Room 307 at 6:00 p.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT: LOWES, MARTINEZ, MUSE, AND MAYOR VARGAS ALSO PRESENT: City Attorney Bower, Dir. of Administrative Services Yeats, Acting Chief of Police Cisneros, Dir. of Public Works Mousavi, Dir. of ReciCommunity Services Nunez, and City Clerk Gair ORAL COMMUNICATION Mayor Vargas declared Oral Communications open and invited those wishing to speak on any subject to come forward. There were none. Mayor Vargas declared Oral Communications closed. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION Director of Public Works Mousavi presented the redesign of Maine Avenue as discussed and proposed by the Maine Avenue Committee. He explained the widening and removal of sections of the median island and the changes needed for signals. Councilmember Lozano arrived at 6:15 p.m. The changes in crosswalks and reduction in size of some median areas. Trees 16) being removed will not be relocated due to cost. The problems regarding emergency vehicles will be alleviated. He further discussed the possibility of relocating a beauty shop to allow access to the parking lot by the Chamber of Commerce. The committee was able to come to a consensus in three meetings as to the changes they desired. Some of the Council was not convinced that this would relieve the congestion, the synchronization:on of the lights was considered a big problem. Council further discussed whether this was really a worthwhile project and did not want to spend the money on this. Council suggested scheduling another meeting or meetings with the Maine Avenue Committee and businesses to discuss concerns and the cost and possible alternatives to reduce the cost or to do adjustments in increments. Also, possible financial participation by the businesses and the County or other agencies should be pursued. Council recommended bringing the design of Maine Avenue back to another Study Session. It was moved and seconded to adjourn the Study Session at 6:50 p.m. MIS/C: MUSE/LOWES. There were no objections.
