HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 008 CC RESO2002 008 CC RESO¹òw @˜ýRESOLUTION NO. 2002-008 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK, DECLARING ITS SUPPORT OF H.R. 300, AUTHORED BY U.S. REPRESENTATIVE HILDA SOLIS, ENCOURAGING THE PRESIDENT TO RELEASE FUNDS FOR HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, our country is healing from the terrorists attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001; and WHEREAS, a weak economy, combined with the events of September 11, 2001, has caused an enormous loss of jobs; and WHEREAS, economists predict the continued fallout from the September 11 attacks, the fear of anthrax, falling consumer confidence, and worries over unemployment will slow consumer spending further and worsen the economy; and WHEREAS, more individuals will need Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program assistance in fiscal year 2002 due to the recent increase in unemployment and the slowing economy; and WHEREAS, the Federal Government has a duty to meet this temporary challenge; and WHEREAS, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program could directly help individuals affected by the slowing economy; and WHEREAS, the Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program is a federally-funded block grant program that helps ease the energy cost burden of low-income households; and WHEREAS, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program emergency funds have been used in the past to assist those in crisis circumstances, and the September 11, 2001, attacks created crisis for households throughout the country; and WHEREAS, the President currently has at his disposal emergency Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program funds that could assist those who are without jobs and are in extreme economic distress as a result of the events of September 11, 2001, pay their bills; and WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park City Council hereby declares its support of H.R. 300 authored by Congresswoman Hilda Soils D-31, which encourages the President of the United States to release funds for Home Energy Assistance.
