HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 010 CC RESO2002 010 CC RESO¹òw @˜÷RESOLUTION NO. 2002-010 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK, DECLARING ITS SUPPORT OF H.R. 2534, AUTHORED BY U.S. REPRESENTATIVE HILDA SOUS, RELATING TO THE LOWER LOS ANGELES & SAN GABRIEL RIVERS WATERSHED STUDY ACT OF 2001 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley is home to over 2 million people who deserve environmental opportunities; and WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley has only 3 acres of open space for every 1000 people in direct contradiction to the National Park Service's recommended 3-4 acres; and WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Mountains should be protected and preserved for recreational and environmental uses; and WHEREAS, the Lower Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers should be revitalized and preserved; and WHEREAS, private property owners and local communities will be able to participate in the study of the region for possible designation in the National Park Service; and WHEREAS, no eminent domain provisions will be included in the final designation bill; and WHEREAS, National Park involvement historically increases tourism and boosts the iocal economy; and WHEREAS, the National Park Service awards ninety percent 90%) of their goods and services contracts to small businesses; and WHEREAS, open, green space historically raises property values; and WHEREAS, National Park Service involvement will make local communities and businesses eligible for environmental restoration and revitalization grants; and WHEREAS, a National Park area would provide greater opportunities for environmental education. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park, strongly supports passage of H.R. 2619, The Lower Los Angeles & San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Study Act of 2001", introduced by U.S. Representative Hilda Solis.
