HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956 009 CC RESO1956 009 CC RESO ZX ZPI´8RESOLUTION NO, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A CHIEF OF POLICE AND FIXING HIS COMPENSATION, THE SECURING CF POLICE EQUIPMENT, AND THE ESTABLISH- MENT OF A POLICE FORCE. WHEREAS, Section 36505 of the Government Code of the State of Cali- fornia directs the City Council to appoint a Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park was incorporated on the 25th day of January, 1956$ and WHEREAS, the City Administrator has heretofore served as the City Enforcement Officer; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it desirable to appoint a Chief of Police and to establish a police force. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park does hereby RESOLVE, DETERMINE and ORDER, as follows; Section 1. That it is deemed desirable and satisfactory to the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park that the office of the Chief of Police be and it is hereby created; that MR. HEIMER SYHRE is hereby designated as the Chief of Police of the City of Baldwin Park. Section 2. The Chief of Police shall hold office at the pleasure of the City Council and may be removed from the office with or without cause. Section 3, The compensation of the Chief of Police is fixed at the rate of $425.00 per month, beginning on the 15th day of February, 1956. Section It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police to take such steps as are necessary to enforce City Ordinances and State Law. The Chief of Police shall not act unreasonably, arbitrarily, or capriciously; pro- vided, however, that such limitations shall in no manner or way affect his authority at any time. Section 5. The Chief of Police shall be empowered, with the consent of the City Council, to employ subordinates. The Chief of Police shall fix the duties of his subordinates and have general supervision of the Police Department; he shall recommend to the City Council such police equipment as shall be necessary or required by the Police Department. Section 6. The City Administrator shall provide the Chief of Police with an office and furnish said office with the necessary office equipment, office supplies, and clerical help, and in addition thereto the City Ad- ministrator is empowered to furnish necessary or convenient police equipment and vehicles providing he shall not obligate or expend in excess of $1,000.00 without Council approvals Section 7.
