A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN
PARK URGING PREVENTION OF POLLUTION, CONTAMINATION AND
OTHER NUISANCE CONDITIONS IN, THE,WATERS AND BEACHES
BORDERING PAL06 VERDES PENINSULA.
WHEREAS, the State of California, Department of Fish and
Game, wrote a letter dated June 7> 19^7 to Regional Water
j
Pollution Control Board No. 4 on the subject of tentative re-
quirements for disposal of treated sewage into the Pacific
Ocean at Whitens Point by County Sanitation Districts of Los
Angeles County from its existing Joint sewage treatment plant;
and
WHEREAS, in said letter the Department of Fish and Game
pointed out that the commercial value of sardines, mackerel and
anchovies taken in the vicinity of Whiter Point outfall have
contributed a total average value of nearly ten million dollars
per year to the economy of the State; and
WHEREAS, in said letter the Department estimates that at
least $600,000.00 per year is spent by pleasure fishermen of all
types in the waters" in the vicinity of Whiter oint; and
WHEREAS, in said letter the Department points out large
quantities of fish, molluscs and crustaceans are being taken
from this area for human food, We believe there is a definite
danger to the public interest in the utilization of these food
resources." and that the public's interest in the availability
and utilization of these resources should be protected; and
WHEREAS, in said letter the Department points out that the
waters in the area of White's Point are used extensively for
recreational purposes and that the bacteria count in said waters
is considerably above the bacteria count generally accepted for
salt water bathing standards;

NOBf, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Baldwin
Park DOES RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER as follows;
SECTION 1; That the City Council of the City of Baldwin
Park urges each Director in all Sanitation Districts which
utilize the County Sanitation Districts Sewage Treatment Plant
at Whiter Point to order the executive staff of the County
Sanitation Districts to undertake an immediate study of methods
of treatment of sewage and industrial wastes that will prevent
the pollution, contamination, or other nuisance conditions in
the waters and beaches bordering Palos Verdes Peninsula,
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of August, 19^7.

I, ELMER COOL, City Clerk of the City of Baldwin Park, do hereby
certify that the foregoing resolution was adopted by the City Council
of the City of Baldwin Park at the adjourned regular meeting of said Council
on the 26th day of August, 19^7 3 and signed by the Mayor of said City, and
that said Resolution was adopted by the following vote;
AIES: Councilmen Cole, Bishop, Stephens and Littlejohn
NOES; None
ABSENT; Councilman Cole.
