A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN
PARK REQUESTING THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO
ADVOCATE THAT AN EXEMPTION BE GRANTED TO CITIES FROM
THE PAYMENT OF STATE SALES AND GAS TAXES
WHEREAS, the municipalities of the State of California,
including the City of Baldwin Park, pay the State Sales Tax and
the State Gas Tax; and
WHEREAS, taxation of a lower echelon of government by a
higher echelon creates a dangerous precedent and may induce the
Federal Government to terminate its tax exemption practices to
cities and states; and
WHEREAS, such payment by the cities of California results
in a syphoning by the State of much needed municipal revenues
to the detriment of all such cities.
NOtff, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN
PARK DOES RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS r
That the League of California Cities expend every effort
to obtain from the State Legislature an exemption of cities
from the payment of State Sales Taxes and State Gas Taxes.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this l6th day of September 19$7.
