A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BALDWIN PARK SUPPORTING AND
APPROVING THE FORMATION OF A MUNICIPAL
WATER DISTRICT IN THE UPPER SAN GABRIEL
VALLEY EXCLUDING THEREFROM THE CORPORATE
AREAS OF THE CITIES OP ALHAMBRA, AZUSA,
MONTEREY PARK AND SIERRA MADRE.
WHEREAS, the supply of water furnished to the
cities, communities and industries situated in the Upper
San Gabriel Valley is obtained from wells producing in the
main San Gabriel Basin; and
WHEREAS, the exceptional growth and development
experienced in recent years in the Upper San Gabriel Val-
ley has brought about a rising demand for water resulting
in a lowering water table and depletion of the supply in
the main San Gabriel Valley Basin; and
WHEREAS, curtailment of the Invaluable water
rights of both municipal and private agencies producing
in the main San Gabriel Valley Basin may result from legal
action proposed by downstream users; and
WHEREAS, a municipal water district, if formed
in the main San Gabriel Valley Basin, could further con-
serve local storm flows, reclaim waste waters, seek addi-
tional sources of supply, and otherwise restore and maintain
the water levels within the said Basin; and
WHEREAS, such a District, if formed, could defend
and protect water rights of use or useful to its inhabi-
tants; and
WHEREAS, the Cities of Alhambra, Azusa, Monterey
Park and Sierra Madre have undertaken proceedings for the
formation of a separate municipal water district Including
therein the corporate areas of the said Cities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Baldwin Park that formation of a municipal

1959 006 CC RESOxJ × % water district in the Upper San Gabriel Valley, excluding
therefrom the corporate areas of the Cities of Alhambra,
Azusa, Monterey Park and Sierra Madre be, and hereby Is,
approved and supported, and that the Upper San Gabriel
Valley Water Association be urged to proceed with plans
for the forming of the said district, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of
this resolution be forwarded to the office of the said
Association, at 9173 Las Tunas Drive, Temple City, Cali-
fornia.
