HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959 108 CC RESO1959 108 CC RESO ZX ZPH28RESOLUTION NO. 59-108 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE PRO- DUCTION OF A WORLD'S FAIR IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA IN 1963-64. WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Los Angeles and the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County have heretofore both endorsed efforts being made to sponsor, obtain, and suc- cessfully conduct a World's Fair in the Los Angeles area in 1965-64; and WHEREAS in furtherance of this objective the Los Angeles City Council and the Board of Supervisors have recommended the appointment of a Citizens' Committee to obtain and perfect pro- duction of a World's Fair in 1965-64; and WHEREAS the Legislature of the State of California did on June II, 1959, endorse this effort on behalf of the State of Cali fornia; and WHEREAS there are now pending before the Congress of the United States similar resolutions of endorsement for a World's Fair in the Los Angeles area in 1965-64; and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park wishes to Join with each of the other cities in the Los Angeles Metro- politan area in endorsing and encouraging the production of a World's Fair in 1965-64; NCW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: 1. That by adoption of this resolution the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park does hereby commend the Los Angeles City Council, the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County, the Legislature of the State of California, and the Congress of the United States of America in their respective efforts toward obtaining production of a World's Fair in 1965-64 in the Los Angeles area; 2. That the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park does hereby urge each resident of the City of Baldwin Park and all other cities in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area to assist in every way possible the efforts of the Citizens' Committee to successfully achieve production of a World's Fair in the Los Angeles area in 1965-64; 5, That copies of this resolution be forwarded by the City Clerk to the Council and Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, to the State Assemblymen, State Senator and Congressional Representatives representing the Baldwin Park area, in order that they may thereby BIB] 38238-U01 1959-U02 108-U02 CC-U02 RESO-U02 LI3-U03 FO52524-U03 FO52525-U03 DO52529-U03 C6-U03 RESO-U03 9/7/2004-U04 ROBIN-U04 1959 108 CC RESO ZX ZPH28be encouraged to continue their active support of this very worthwhile program, Mawr of the City of Baldwin Park ATTEST^^^^ \^3-^£^J City Clerk STATE OF CALIFORNIA COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES SS CITY OF BALDWIN PARK I, Thelma L. WHEREAS, Joe C. Pierce has served the City of Bald- win Park as Civil Defense Director since November 19, 1956; and WHEREAS, he has performed the duties of his office with skill and distinction, having been instrumental in securing a radiological vault for the City and organizing radiological training classes; and WHEREAS, the civil defense unit of the City has grown into an effective force because of his ability to en- list the cooperation of the public and fellow workers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Baldwin Park that Joe C. Pierce be commended for his outstanding service to the City of Baldwin Park as its first Civil Defense Director, that this Council regrets his resignation from the service of the City, and wishes him all the very best in his future endeavors.
