HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976 012 CC RESO1976 012 CC RESO(Ììø9RESOLUTION NO. 76-12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK URGING VARIOUS ACTIONS TO ASSIST THE CITY OF BURBANK IN ITS EFFORTS TO ACQUIRE AND CONTINUE OPERATION OF THE HOLLYWOOD-BURBANK AIRPORT WHEREAS, the Hollywood-Burbank Airport has long been recognized as an integral part of the Southern California Regional Airport System and is included in the California State Transportation Plan and the National Airport System Plan, and WHEREAS, the Hollywood-Burbank Airport serves the San Fernando/San Gabriel Valley areas as a major transportation center serving a population of more than two and one-half million people, and WHEREAS, the Hollywood-Burbank Airport serves as an employment center and is vital to the economy of the area, and WHEREAS, the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, present owner of this important air facility, has expressed its in- tention to divest itself of the Hollywood-Burbank Airport, and WHEREAS, the closure of the Hollywood-Burbank Airport or the use of the Airport area for other purposes would have a detrimental effect upon the economy of this region and would create great inconvenience for all users of this transporta- tion center, and WHEREAS/ the City Council of the city of Baldwin Park has recognized the importance of the Hollywood-Burbank Airport to the area and the serious ramifications that would result from its closure or use for other purposes, and being desirous and capable of continuing to operate the airport as a transpor- tation center thus assuring continuation of its many benefits to the area and the general public, has instituted actions toward acquisition of said air facility, and WHEREAS, the continued operation of Hollywood-Burbank Airport is of major significance to the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and to the large population of the region it serves. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Los Angeles and the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles are urged to support and assist the City of Burbank in its efforts to acquire and continue operation of the Hollywood-Burbank Airport and to assist the City of Burbank in every way possible to accomplish said objectives. SECTION 2. The Lockheed Aircraft Corporation is urged to refrain from selling said air facility for other than airport purposes. The Federal Aviation Administration is urged to retain this air facility as a part of the air trans- portation system for this region. SECTION 4. That all elected State and Federal Officials from this area be made cognizant of the importance of this air facility as a transportation center for the vast area it serves and to the urgency of maintaining operation of the Hollywood-Burbank Airport for public benefit. SECTION 5. That the City Clerk send copies of this Resolution to the Los Angeles City Council, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, the Senators and Congressmen representing California, the California Secretary of the Business and Transportation Agency, the State Legislators representing this area, the California League of Cities, the Southern California Associa- tion of Governments, the District Director of the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cities of Burbank, Glendale, Alhambra, Arcadia. Azusa, Bradbury. Duarte, El Monte, South El Monte, Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Montebello, Pasadena, Pico Rivera, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City, West Covina, Glendora, San Dimas, Pomona, Claremont, La Verne, and Sierra Madre.
