A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BALDWIN PARK, CALIFORNIA, STRONGLY
URGING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO REDUCE THE DISTRICT RATES
OP TAXES THROUGHOUT LOS ANGELES COUNTY
WHEREAS, a major portion of real and personal prop-
erty within Los Angeles County has been reassessed for the
fiscal year 1976-1977 by the Los Angeles County Assessor's
office; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that said reassessment
has resulted in an average increase of approximately 18% in
said assessment roll over the 1975-1976 basis; and
WHEREAS, said reassessment will provide to the various
districts within the Los Angeles County and to the County of
Los Angeles General Fund many millions of dollars of additional
tax revenue; and
WHEREAS, the real and personal property tax revenues are
distributed on the basis of 57% to the County of Los Angeles
and its various taxing agencies, 35% to school districts, and
8% to the City of Baldwin Park? and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by way of the Long
Beach-Los Angeles Consumer Price Index that there has been an
increase of only 6.57% in the cost of living for said period; and
WHEREAS, it appears that the County of Los Angeles
Board of Supervisors will within the next thirty 30) days set
tax rates for the various Los Angeles County Taxing Districts
and will also set the tax rate for the General Fund of the
County of Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, it now appears that the County of Los Angeles
has the immediate ability and the financial opportunity to pass
on to the various municipalities and to the taxpayers within
said municipalities of Los Angeles County at least a portion of
the financial benefits derived from the increased assessments?
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of
Baldwin Park urges and requests the Los Angeles County Board
of Supervisors to effect an immediate and substantial reduction
in the tax rate of all Los Angeles County Taxing Districts and
of the General Fund of the County of Los Angeles.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall
certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
