HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980 089 CC RESO1980 089 CC RESO(ÌìîRESOLUTION NO. 80-89 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 1 WHICH PLACES BEFORE THE VOTERS OF CALIFORNIA, A BOND MEASURE TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION PROGRAMS WHEREAS, the parks and recreation programs vastly enhance our urban environment; and WHEREAS, leisure and open spaces in both urban and rural areas are a necessity to life, since they have a substantial effect on mental and physical health, economic productivity and social problems; and WHEREAS, enhancement of parks and other natural resources will have a direct economic benefit to our community and the state as a whole; and moreover, will benefit the health and well-being of Californians; and WHEREAS, Proposition 1 would place before the voters of California a measure to provide funding for acquisition and development of parks. recreation programs, conservation of natural resources, and access to popular recreation areas; and WHEREAS, the proposed parklands program will make available additional recreation areas in and near population centers, which is particularly important as transportation and fuel become more expensive; and WHEREAS, the Governor has signed Senate Bill 624 which became Chapter 250 of the Statutes of 1980 and win place on the November 4 ballot the California Parklands Act of 1980 which, if approved, would provide $285 million for the acquisition and development of State and local parks and for historical preservation, and WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park would receive approximately $144,085 as a result of the passage of the California Parklands Act of 1980, and WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has endorsed this measure and is interested in developing Santa Fe Dam, Whittier Narrows, and Bonetii Parks, and the Skyline Trail with Los Angeles County's allocation from the California Parklands Act of 1980 which would benefit the residents of Baldwin Park and the entire San Gabriel Valley, and WHEREAS, this measure would provide sorely needed source for major park acquisitions and development throughout the State of California and within the County of Los Angeles and the City of Baldwin Park, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED FURTHER, that said City Council of the City of Baldwin Park endorses and supports the proposed California Parklands Act of 1980. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of October-^ ggo.
