A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BALDWIN PARK OPPOSING THE DEVELOPMENT OF
AN OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLE PARK WITHIN THE CITY
OF BALDWIN PARK
WHEREAS, it was recently announced that the County of
Los Angeles had received an $800,000 grant from the State of California
to develop an off-road motorcycle park in the City of Baldwin Park on
property located at the 1-10 and 1-605 interchange; and
WHEREAS, said project would include a motorcycle track,
pit area, park-ing, central control tower and picnic area; and
WHEREAS, this proposed location would result in environ-
mental, access and circulation problems; and
WHEREAS, the proposed motorcycle park would not serve a
significant number of Baldwin Park residents and there is considerable
community opposition to the project, particularly from residents in the
immediate area of the proposed project; and
WHEREAS, there are more appropriate sites, such as the Santa
Fe Dam Recreation Area, within this urban area for such a park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park has notified State and
County staff and Supervisor Peter Schabarum of the City's opposition to
the proposed location of the motorcycle park in the community; and
WHEREAS, the City has been notified that the County wi11 be
conducting public hearings regarding the project in the forthcoming weeks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Baldwin Park is opposed to the development of the off-road motorcycle
park in the City of Baldwin Park and requests the assistance of the Board of
Supervisors of Los Angeles County in causing the motorcycle park to be de-
veloped in a more appropriate location.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution and shall forward copies hereof to the Board of
Supervisors of Los Angeles County.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 2nd day of June, 1982
