A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK
IN TRIBUTE TO LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF
SERGEANT LARREL K. SMITH
APRIL 20, 1983
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK AS
FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, Sergeant Larrel K. Smith, a member of the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department, Special Enforcement Bureau, was regularly assigned
in this capacity on the morning of April 14, 1983 at 3450 Robinette Street
in the City of Baldwin Park; and
WHEREAS, in the course of assisting Sheriff's Department investigators
in the service of a search warrant of said premises, hostile gunfire was
received from this location; and
WHEREAS, in the course of gaining entry to this location to restore
peace and order, without regard for his own safety, and in the face of
extreme danger. Sergeant Larret K. Smith sustained serious gunshot wounds
to which he succumbed on April 16, 1983; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Larrel K. Smith has distinguished himself as a
respected law enforcement officer, husband, and father, whose ultimate
sacrifice in this tragic and dangerous encounter is in keeping with the
highest standards of Law Enforcement; and
WHEREAS, with deep regret and sadness, the memory of Sergeant Larrel
K. Smith in serving his department, and his fellow man shall always remain
in our hearts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BALDWIN PARK, in recognition of this tragic toss, pays mournful tribute
in honor of Sergeant Larrel K. Smith proclaimed this day April 20, 1983.
The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this
Resolution.
