A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BALDWIN PARK DECLARING ITS SUPPORT
FOR ASSEMBLY BILL AB 1832 REGULATING TRANS-
PORTATION OF HAZARDOUS WASTE MATERIAL
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BALDWIN PARK AS
FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, current statutes make no provisions for enforcement of
hazardous waste violations by peace officers at the local levels; and
WHEREAS, the transportation of hazardous waste materials upon
local streets and thoroughfares, white in transit to a disposal site,
presents the danger of spillage, creating a threat to the health of
the people and a threat to the safety of the environment; and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Sally Tanner has introduced into legisla-
tion Assembly Bill AB 1832 which would allow peace officers at the local
levels to enforce hazardous waste violations including the unlawful
transportation of hazardous waste materials and not properly identifying
said hazardous waste materials; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill AB 1832 also makes provisions for the
state to reimburse local agencies for any mandated costs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baldwin Park is greatly concerned for the
health, safety and welfare of the people, and will provide local
assistance to enforce these provisions respecting the transportation
of hazardous waste materials; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BALDWIN PARK, hereby support Assembly Bill AB 1832.
The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this
Resolution.
